I am looking at a picture of my grandmother, Olive in 1920. I know this because my parents thoughtfully kept this photo, neatly labelled, so that we kids could one day look back and appreciate that this once-young and lively woman had a life before she became the grey-haired lady who served us sponge and custard every Sunday during our childhood.
